The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) celebrated the 27th annual Excellence in Construction Awards earlier this month, honoring 98 projects nationwide. Rodgers was recognized for two projects, both of which received Pyramid awards.

In the $25 to $100 million healthcare category, the Rodgers project team at Carteret Health Care took home a Pyramid award for the construction completed on the new Specialty Pavilion and Vertical Expansion, located in Morehead City, NC. The new Specialty Pavilion serves as the front entrance to the existing hospital and includes a Cancer Center, Women’s Center, Central Energy Plant and Patient Tower. The two-story vertical expansion was built overtop the existing Emergency Department, allowing the expansion of outpatient surgery services, as well as ICU and CCU services.

Also a recipient of a Pyramid award, the Rodgers project team at Carolinas HealthCare System placed in the $10 to $25 million healthcare category for the Carolinas Medical Center – Main Kitchen Renovation, located in Charlotte, NC. The project consisted of a 13,204-square-foot renovation, a 5,000-square-foot temporary kitchen and 16,442 square feet of additional support areas. Construction touched every floor of the 13-story hospital and stretched from one side of the campus to the other. All work was completed while keeping the kitchen open and operational 24/7 throughout construction, serving on average 2,400 meals per day.

The winning projects exemplify safety, craftsmanship and innovation and were judged based on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost. A panel of industry experts served as the competition’s judges.
