ABC of the Carolinas honors Rodgers with three Excellence in Construction Awards

Associated Builders and Contractors of the Carolinas held the 15th Annual Excellence in Construction Awards this month. The competitive program recognizes outstanding construction projects across the Carolinas, chosen for innovation and quality construction, with a strong emphasis on safety. This year, Rodgers had three projects that were honored.

Carteret Health Care – Specialty Pavilion and Vertical Expansion

  • A new Specialty Pavilion which serves as the front entrance to the existing hospital and includes a Cancer Center, Women’s Center, Central Energy Plant and Patient Tower
  • Additionally, the project includes a two-story vertical expansion overtop the existing single-story Emergency Department, expanding outpatient surgery services, as well as ICU and CCU services
  • Interior renovations include a new chapel, gift shop and café

Riverbanks Zoo & Garden – Destination Riverbanks Expansion Program

  • Expansion including a new main entrance; Grizzly Ridge and Otter Run; a new guest services building with an information lobby, administrative offices and security; new restrooms; new gift shop; Sea Lion Landing; and a new pedestrian bridge
  • In addition to approximately four acres of exhibit space, there is over 25,000 SF of new structures, as well as a 250,000-gallon saltwater pool for Sea Lion Landing
  • A state-of-the-art Life Support System (LSS), filtration and disinfection systems were a unique feature incorporated into this project to support the animal exhibits

Riverbanks Zoo received ABC of the Carolinas’ Merit Award for Excellence in Construction.

This project also won the 2016 ABC of the Carolinas’ Eagle Award for Free Enterprise, which recognizes the project with the largest number of ABC member subcontractors, suppliers and associate members working directly on the project. Read more about the project scope and process:

Carolinas HealthCare System – CMC Kitchen Renovation

  • 13,204 SF kitchen renovation, a 5,000 SF temporary kitchen and 16,442 SF of additional support areas
  • Construction touched every floor of the 13-story hospital, including the roof, and stretched from one side of the campus to the other to tie-in to various utilities
  • A self-sustained temporary kitchen was built outside the hospital in order to complete renovations while keeping the kitchen open and operational 24/7 throughout construction, serving on average 2,400 meals per day
