Project scope will include demolition of the existing Charlotte Nature Museum, built in 1951, and the construction of a new, replacement museum. The new building, which will more than double the existing building’s size, will consist of two levels and 29,000 square feet, along with approximately eight wooded acres of outdoor experiences.

Outdoor spaces will include nature trails, an elevated treetop canopy walkway, pavilions, amphitheater and creek interactions. Visitors will be able to experience a large river otter exhibit that will run through the exterior wall.

A public plaza will include restrooms, cafe and a bicycle repair station. The Rodgers team will coordinate with Discovery Place’s exhibit designers, fabricators and installers.
