Renovation of the existing Johnson Gymnasium for the Alvarez College Union, which includes a bookstore, post office, student café, aerobic/ exercise areas and a student lounge
Includes the addition of a new, 122,000 square foot, 588-seat theater with two balconies, orchestra pit and full working stage
Challenges
Underpinning the existing foundations of the Johnston Gymnasium to accommodate a new fourth level floor slab for the new college union; replacing a new standing seam barrel vaulted roof at the west elevation of the new college union
