On October 5 and 6, the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association (PHCC) held its National Convention in Charlotte, NC. Sean Spidel, a Rodgers MEP Project Manager, was asked to be a judge for the National Apprenticeship Championship.

“Contestants were judged on a vast array of items from rough in of DWV, in cast iron and plastic pipe, installation of copper water piping, in which I was a trade consultant for any soldering and or brazing that took place, and finish/trim out work,” Sean said. “I scored contestants based on the accuracy of measurements, code compliance, neatness of work, and overall competency. I met many different people from all over our country, from these apprentices to the Owners/Contractors they work for, many reps from companies across the country that manufacture trade supplies, and the officers of PHCC, IAPMO, and ICC. I had the opportunity to spread knowledge and a helping hand to these young workers coming up in the plumbing and HVAC trades as they make their way to one day working in more prominent roles in building the same type of buildings that we here at Rodgers construct. I was very lucky as a young man to learn plumbing and mechanical work from some of the most experienced foreman, and it is my pleasure and duty to the trade to now give back to the younger generation coming up in the trades and pass that knowledge on to them.”
