The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) celebrated the 28th annual Excellence in Construction® Awards during the ABC Convention 2018 in Long Beach, CA, honoring just over 100 projects nationwide. This year, Rodgers received two national awards from ABC.

SpringHill Suites by Marriott – Charlotte Uptown in Charlotte, NC, took home the top award in its category, receiving the Eagle award for commercial projects in the $35-100 million range. The hotel, developed by SREE Hotels, sits on a tiny triangle of land bordered by light rail, trolley tracks and a parking deck. The site constraints required creativity from the design and construction team, applying innovative construction methods to complete the project on budget and schedule.

In the $25 to $100 million institutional category, the Rodgers project team at Davidson College took home a Pyramid award for the construction completed on the new E. Craig Wall Jr. Academic Center, located in Davidson, NC. Davidson’s new academic building houses the biology, chemistry, psychology and environmental science departments. The facility provides a collaborative environment for teaching and transdisciplinary research and a facility that will flex to accommodate new disciplines that will emerge in the years ahead.

“I am continually inspired by the amazing talent these ABC members and their employees display every day in the communities they build. It is an honor to recognize their commitment to world-class safety, superior craftsmanship and cutting-edge innovation,” said 2018 ABC National Chair George R. Nash Jr.

The winning projects exemplify safety, craftsmanship and innovation and were judged based on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost. A panel of industry experts served as the competition’s judges.
