The new 258,000-square-foot high school is situated on 60 acres of land in Cornelius, North Carolina. The main building is a two-story, steel structure with masonry skin. Inside there are 99 classrooms, which includes 16 science labs, and a 16,000-square-foot “super” gymnasium (load-bearing masonry and steel structure) that can be divided into two separate courts.
Outside there is a sports complex with athletic fields, running track, and eight tennis courts. Fifteen rain gardens (bioretention areas) protect the property by preventing erosion and runoff.
William A. Hough High School first opened its doors to students on August 25, 2010.
