In April 2001, Rodgers was awarded a preconstruction and general construction contract to expand and renovate Belk Department Stores retail department store at SouthPark Mall in Charlotte, North Carolina. The 18-month project transformed the well-known Belk location into its flagship store, clearly setting the bar for all other department stores located at the regionally recognized SouthPark Mall.
Project scope consisted of a two-level, 46,000 square-foot, steel-frame addition and a four-level, 327,000 square-foot complete renovation (373,000 project total square-feet). The project required a complex series of 70+ phases, each involving an approximate 6-week duration. Existing store daily functions were required to remain operational throughout construction. The SouthPark Mall Belk project was completed in 2002 and represents the fifth project Rodgers has completed for Belk Stores since the mid-1980s.
