In April 2001, Rodgers Builders was awarded a preconstruction and general construction contract to expand and renovate Belk Stores retail department store at SouthPark Mall in Charlotte, North Carolina. The 18-month project transformed the well-known Belk location into its flagship store, clearly setting the bar for all other department stores located at the regionally recognized SouthPark Mall.
Project scope consisted of a two-level, 46,000 square-foot, steel-frame addition and a fourlevel, 327,000 square-foot complete renovation. The $19 million project required a complex series of 70+ phases, each involving an approximate 6-week duration. Existing store daily functions were required to remain operational throughout construction. The SouthPark Mall Belk project represents the fifth project Rodgers has completed for Belk Stores since the mid-1980s.
