In April 1997, Rodgers was selected by Bank of America to provide construction services for a 10-level, 543,000 square foot cast-in-place, concrete parking deck on one block between Sixth and Seventh Street in highly-trafficked downtown Charlotte. The ground level includes space for Reid's grocery store and several restaurants. The $14 million, 1,600-space deck opened in Spring of 1998.
Because of its artist-designed "interactive" exterior, the parking deck has been recognized nationally by Architectural Record magazine and The Wall Street Journal. This deck represents a growing trend to blend utilitarian structures into their urban environments and add interest and beauty to the cityscape as well as function.
