Tools transformed as art in “ReTooled” exhibition

Pat Rodgers was interviewed by the Columbia Museum of Art regarding her experience with the Hechinger Art Collection, recently on display through the “ReTooled” exhibition. Construction projects by Rodgers in the early 1980s included several Hechinger hardware store locations, and Pat had the opportunity to see some of the collection in their Maryland headquarters. The art collection pays homage to humble tools and hardware, made beautiful through their function as well as form.

“In the construction industry, craftsmanship has always been a focus,” said Pat Rodgers. “With recent advances in technology, we need to be sure we don’t lose sight of that, and we need to be sure we honor our craftworkers. This exhibition features some of the tools that make possible what those craftworkers do every day.”
