UNCG School of Education project achieves LEEDŽ Gold

Feb 17, 2012

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) now has its first LEED® certified building on campus. The School of Education building and its team surpassed the original goal to obtain LEED Silver—and instead received LEED Gold for efficiencies in water, energy, and land conservation.

This stunning five-story, 110,500-square-foot academic building was built on a sustainable site landscaped with bioretention areas and sand filtration tanks. The team used certified wood, and recycled and local building materials, in addition to products with low volatile organic compounds. They also exceeded their goal to recycle 75-percent of the construction waste; the final total was 88-percent.

The UNCG School of Education project was completed in spring of 2011.
