Southeast Construction magazine named the recently completed Women’s Center at Presbyterian Hospital “Best Private Building” in the Best of 2004 construction awards program. The judges selected the project from among other construction projects in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida, based on the following criteria: solutions to difficult challenges, project management, construction innovation, client service, and safety.
“The Presbyterian Hospital Women’s Center is a state of the art facility and is exceeding patient and family expectations,” said Pat Campbell, executive director of Women’s and Children’s Services at Presbyterian Hospital. “A major factor contributing to the success of the project was the teamwork. Rodgers Builders was committed to daily communication and collaboration with the owner. We all had the same goal, which was to create a beautiful, functional and easy access facility with as minimal disruption to our patients and family members as possible.”
The project involved completion of a 66,000-square-foot vertical expansion for the Women’s Center above an existing parking deck, a 20,000-square-foot addition above an existing children’s hospital, a connector bridge, and renovations to existing areas. “Presbyterian Hospital’s main campus is situated in a busy urban setting,” noted Pat Rodgers, president of Rodgers Builders. “This added to the complexity of managing the project; protecting the safety of hospital staff and visitors, our staff, and the public; and allowing the hospital to maintain its daily operations in the midst of construction activity.”
Presbyterian Hospital is affiliated with Novant Health, a private, not-for-profit health system in North Carolina that serves 3.4 million residents in western North Carolina. Novant Health has been named to the 2004 SMG Top 100 Integrated Healthcare Networks in the country and is a 2004 winner of the Ernest A. Codman Award for outcomes measurement from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
